About the Speaker:
Dr. Gerald J. Gleich, M.D. is the George M. Eisenberg
Professor of Medicine and Immunology at Mayo Clinic and Foundation,
Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Gleich is the recipient of several grants from the National
Institutes
of Health which focus primarily on the functions of eosinophils. The
primary focus the past three years has been studies on the Toxic Oil
Syndrome which occurred in Spain.
He has authored over 150 papers in professional journals and coauthored
over 300 scientific papers. He serves as contributing editor for the
"Journal of Clinical Immunology," the "New England and
Regional Allergy Proceedings," and on the advisory board of "Clinical
Immunology and Immunopathology." He is known as one of the world's foremost
experts on eosinophils.
Dr. Gleich has received numerous awards. He was recognized as a
"Fellow, American Association for the Advancement of Science"
for studies of the" structure, the biological properties and the role in
pathogenesis of disease of basic proteins present in the cytoplasmic
granules of eosinophilic leukocytes."
Dr. Gleich appeared on the Dateline NBC segments on 5-htp aired April 6,
